This week we learned about graphics and content creation. I learned that graphics, in terms of their purpose, can fall into three categories: instructive, seductive, and decorative. Instructive avoids visual clutter, seductive is captivating but not directly relevant to the goal, and decorative is neutral but once again not relevant to the goal.
This is something I have to be cognizant about in French teaching so that I am not just using images because they are cute or fun, but because they serve a purpose for the text or vocabulary.
We also had the chance to create our own headers using AI generated art or Canva. I decided to use Canva because I think it’s a bit more creative than using prompted, generated art. However, I do think ai-generated art will be great for creating images to help students learn vocabulary through image association and not translation. Anyways, I designed a banner that captures my Free Inquiry topic of learning Spanish. Unfortunately, the banner I created was slightly bigger than what WordPress allows and the theme of my blog also cuts off a majority of the banner for aesthetic purposes. So here is my banner in all its glory:

If I was more versed in website design I would also fix the fact that my header title is not centred, but that’s also perhaps a bit perfectionist.
If any of you are interested in another resource like Canva, I grew up in school using Powtoon which is also an amazing graphic design resource.
Lastly, what were your thoughts on AI generated Art? I am curious about how the legal ramifications will develop.
