This week was all about music for me, and obviously exclusively music in Spanish. I already have a playlist in my phone of about 80 or so Spanish songs that I listen to often but I wanted to use music this week as a means to expose myself to more vocabulary and see if I could infer meaning from some songs.

The best tool I found online to help me was a website called Lyrics Training. The website has catalogues of songs in different languages that you can access the music videos and follow along with fill in the blank lyrics. Best part it is, it’s all free and no account is required. I also like that you can set the language level you are at, so I made sure mine was set to beginner. Everyday over the past week I’ve watched at least two music videos and done the corresponding fill in the blanks lyrics. It’s been a great exercise in spelling and listening comprehension (in terms of phonetics). At the end of the video and lyrics, I re-watch the video and re-read through the lyrics to guess the context of the song before plugging the lyrics into Google Translate. Usually, I was able to infer pretty close to what the singer’s intentions were.

This exercise over the last couple days has left me feeling significantly more confident in my skills. I am also feeling like I am improving because today marks my 8 day Duolingo streak! So far, I have learned mostly food and people vocabulary. Next week, I want to focus on basic conjugation for “to be” and “to have” and have those memorized because I know those are the base verbs to most romance languages.

If you have any recommendations for sites that can help with Spanish verb conjugation, please let me know!
